Craig Green

Craig Green

Guitar

Biography

Guitarist and composer Craig Green has spent more than three decades exploring the outer edges of sound. Moving fluidly between jazz, avant-garde improvisation, electronica, and global musical traditions, his work inhabits a sonic space where composition and spontaneity meet. Across ten critically acclaimed solo recordings, Green has developed a distinctive voice on the guitar—one that blends textural exploration, rhythmic curiosity, and lyrical improvisation.

His most recent release, Love Notes in Binary Code, on the UK’s Discus Music, features English drummer Clive Deamer of Radiohead, capturing Green’s ongoing fascination with the intersection of acoustic improvisation and contemporary sonic landscapes.

Raised in New Orleans, Green grew up surrounded by the layered musical cultures that define the city’s legendary creative spirit. That early immersion in rhythm, improvisation, and cultural hybridity continues to inform his music. His studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam deepened this perspective, where he explored ways of merging contemporary composition with non-Western musical concepts that remain central to his artistic language.

As a performer and collaborator, Green has toured and recorded throughout Europe, the United States, and Latin America. His work extends beyond the concert stage to include compositions for ballet and film, as well as workshops and masterclasses focused on contemporary guitar improvisation and extended techniques.

Green currently serves as Professor of Guitar at Idaho State University. In 2025, his score for the documentary On Grizzly Ground received an Emmy Award.
